Person changing a flat tire

Getting a flat tire on the highway can be inconvenient for any driver. Changing your flat tire is essential before bringing your vehicle in for emergency Hyundai service. Garden Grove Hyundai has prepared this step-by-step guide for this process.

Park Your Vehicle in a Safe Spot

Before changing your flat tire, it’s important to find a safe place to park. We recommend a flat surface that’s far away from heavy traffic. Once you’re in a safe spot, turn on your hazard lights and apply the parking brake.

Gather Your Tools

After parking your vehicle, you’ll need to gather your tools. You can find them beneath the cargo area’s floor mat. These tools include your spare tire, lug wrench, and jack.

Loosen Your Tire’s Lug Nuts and Lift Your Vehicle

Before lifting your vehicle, use your lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire in a counterclockwise direction to prevent your tire from spinning. After that, locate the jack point on your vehicle’s frame. Once you’ve found it, you can lift your vehicle until the flat tire is off the ground about six inches.

Remove Your Flat Tire and Install the Spare Tire

Loosen and remove the lug nuts, then carefully pull the flat tire off its wheel and align the spare tire with the wheel studs. Once you’ve pushed the spare tire into place, partially screw the lug nuts into place by hand before lowering your vehicle. Once it’s on the ground, tighten the lug nuts with your lug wrench.
